Nearing the end of World War II, when Germany was forced onto the defensive, fast-moving forces were needed less and tanks needed to be armed better and offer more protection. After the problems against the T-34, Hitler was determined to be better prepared. As a result the heaviest and largest tanks to see combat in World War II was put into production.
